Long Ridge is one of the last sections Levitt & Sons built at Belair at Bowie — an early-1960s tract, circa 1964 to 1965, that broke from the pattern of every section before it. Where the older parts of Bowie mixed modest ranchers and Cape Cods, Long Ridge was laid out almost entirely with one model: the Country Clubber, Levitt’s largest and most expensive Bowie house, a two-story Colonial set on slightly larger lots than the sections that came first. We are JP Roll-Off Service, a family-owned hauler, and on these bigger homes the 10-yard is the container we hand homeowners who are tackling one focused job — the garage, a single bathroom, the yard, or a careful downsize. It is our smallest can, and on a house this size the trick is knowing when the job is genuinely a one-room project rather than the kind of whole-house work that needs more steel.

Long Ridge’s housing is unusual enough to shape how we size a can here. A Country Clubber is a roomy two-story home — later versions ran to five bedrooms — and that scale means a lot of the work out here is large: full roof tear-offs, attic conversions, multi-room remodels. Those are 20 and 30-yard jobs, and we will say so plainly. But not every project on an L-street is a gut. Plenty of the calls we field in Long Ridge are tightly scoped — a garage that has filled over the decades, a single bathroom getting redone, a yard that needs clearing, a longtime home being emptied a room at a time. That is the work the 10-yard is built for, and on these properties it usually drops onto the driveway with room to spare.

What fits in a 10-yard dumpster

The 10-yard is the smallest footprint we run, measuring 12 ft long by 8 ft wide by 4 ft tall. It holds roughly three pickup-truck loads of debris. In Long Ridge a 10-yard for construction debris includes delivery, pickup on request, and a 14-day rental — priced by material, so call for a quote. Extra time is available on request when you book, and dense, heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick and shingles are quoted separately — so the scale matters on the dense material these homes give up.

Those low four-foot walls are the quiet advantage on a roughly 60-year-old Levitt home. You can walk right up and drop debris over the side without a ramp or a heave, which matters when you are loading the dense material these houses give up — old tile, plaster, dirt, shingle scrap. The 10-yard is sized for exactly that kind of focused job: a single-room remodel or a one-corner cleanout, not a whole-house project. And because the container fits inside a single car spot, it tucks neatly onto a Long Ridge driveway — and on these slightly larger lots, with the wider frontage these homes were built on, it rarely crowds the second car or the walk. If your project is bigger than one room, we will steer you to a 15, 20, or 30-yard instead — but for the jobs below, the 10 is the honest call.

Which Long Ridge jobs suit the 10-yard

This is the size folks know as the “garage cleanout,” and on these Country Clubber lots that is the call we field most for the 10. The four jobs that land squarely in a 10-yard around Long Ridge:

  • Garage cleanouts. The garages on these two-story Levitt homes fill a 10-yard about right — decades of paint cans, warped lumber, broken tools, holiday bins, and boxes come up faster than anyone expects. It is the classic single-bay clear-out without paying for space you will not use.
  • Bathroom remodels. A single-bath gut in a Country Clubber — old tile, the tub, vanity, drywall, and subfloor — is a textbook 10-yard job. The dense tile and plaster fit comfortably when you are doing one bathroom rather than the whole upstairs — just mention the heavy material when you call, since it is quoted separately. On a five-bedroom Colonial there are often several baths, so if you are redoing more than one at a time, tell us and we will size up.
  • Yard waste and trees. Sixty years of growth on these larger Long Ridge lots means mature trees and overgrown beds. Brush, branches, sod, and a removed tree or two load neatly into the low-walled 10, and the box is sized for a single yard’s worth of green, heavy debris.
  • Estate downsize. When a long-held Country Clubber changes hands — and on a section now six decades old, plenty do — a 10-yard handles the furniture, household goods, and accumulated clutter of a measured downsize. It is the right size for emptying a home a room at a time rather than gutting it all at once.

Here is where Long Ridge is genuinely different from Bowie’s smaller-home sections, and it matters for sizing. The two signature renovations on these Country Clubbers are big jobs, not 10-yard jobs. The first is the expandable attic — these homes were built with an unfinished upper space that owners love to convert into a bedroom, office, or beamed loft, and that drywall, insulation, and framing debris runs to a 15 or 20-yard load. The second is the roof: Country Clubbers have a flat, low-slope rear dormer originally done in roll roofing that wears out ahead of the main pitched roof, and a full tear-off on a 60-year-old home generates heavy shingle and roll-roofing debris best handled in a 10-to-20-yard, often larger. If you are taking on an attic conversion, a roof tear-off, a kitchen, or a whole interior gut, those outgrow the 10 — and we will tell you up front rather than watch you overfill it. The 10-yard earns its keep on the one-room, one-corner, one-weekend work these homes also throw off.

Local logistics: placement, permits, and drive time

Driveway placement is the default in Long Ridge. These Country Clubbers sit on slightly larger lots with wider frontage and the driveways to match, so the 10-yard’s single-car-spot footprint slides on without a fight. A 10-yard needs about 12 feet of straight length plus a little clearance and a clear swing for the rear door. Roll-off dumpsters and delivery trucks are heavy and may damage some surfaces, so protecting the driveway or placement area before delivery is the customer’s responsibility. If you’re unsure about placement, call our office before scheduling.

Finding the door is easy on the L-streets. Belair at Bowie was platted with an alliterative quirk that still helps our drivers: every street in a section starts with the same letter as the section name, so in Long Ridge they all begin with “L.” Long Ridge backs up toward Collington Road on the eastern edge of the development. Give us the address and the truck knows it is hunting an L-street, which keeps the morning drop quick and predictable.

The City of Bowie permit rule. Long Ridge sits inside the City of Bowie, and the city only requires a right-of-way permit — handled through the Department of Public Works on Annapolis Road — when a dumpster has to sit in a city street. A container placed entirely on your private driveway or on HOA-approved staging does not need the permit. Because these larger Long Ridge lots almost always have room to stage on-property, most jobs here never trigger it. Customers are responsible for determining whether a City of Bowie permit is required and obtaining it before delivery.

Drive time. Long Ridge is an easy run up Route 197 or the BW Parkway. We dispatch every morning, so most addresses here are scheduled within 24 hours, and an early call may still make a same-day drop.

Talk to the family that runs the trucks

When you call, you reach the people who actually own and operate JP Roll-Off — not a call center, not a dispatch desk three states away. Tell us your Long Ridge address and what you are tackling, whether it is a garage clear-out on one of the L-streets, a single-bath remodel in a Country Clubber, a yard full of brush, or an estate downsize, and we will confirm the 10-yard is the right size — or point you to a bigger can if the attic or the roof is really what you are after.
