Overbrook is one of the “O sections” of Levitt and Sons’ Belair at Bowie, and you can read its history right off the street signs: in keeping with the development’s alliterative naming convention, every street in the section begins with the letter O — Overbrook Lane and its neighbors — which is why locals just call it the “O section.” It is a small community, roughly seven blocks tucked into the northeast corner of Bowie, and it was one of the last sections of detached single-family homes Levitt built, realized between about 1964 and 1968. That makes Overbrook’s housing stock 55 to 60 years old now, and that single fact drives most of the dumpster work we do here. These are original mid-1960s Levitt homes coming due for their second or third real renovation, and the 20-yard roll-off is the size most of those projects land on.

We are JP Roll-Off Service, a family-owned hauler, and Overbrook is an easy run for us by way of Route 197 or the BW Parkway. When you call, you get the family that owns the trucks — not a call center.

What fits in a 20-yard dumpster

The 20-yard measures 22 ft long by 8 ft wide by 4 ft tall and holds roughly nine pickup-truck loads of debris. Pricing is per material: the 20-yard is priced by material for construction debris, so call for a quote (other materials priced separately), and every rental includes delivery, pickup on request, and a 14-day rental. Additional days are available on request when you book, and dense or heavy materials such as concrete, dirt, brick, and shingles are quoted separately because weight matters.

Those four feet of wall height are part of what people underestimate. It is low enough that you can still walk debris up and toss it over the side, but the 22-foot length means it swallows the volume of a genuine project. That balance is why the 20-yard sits in the sweet spot for so many homes in the O section: bigger than a quick-cleanup 10 or 15-yard, but not the oversized 30-yard that mostly makes sense for new construction or full structural demo. It is one of our most versatile sizes — and one customers rarely regret.

Why the 20-yard fits Overbrook specifically

Overbrook’s housing stock is classic 1960s Levitt: Cape Cods, split-levels, and brick ranch-style homes set along narrow residential streets with moderate tree cover shading the lawns — the kind of mature, established lots you find in an older Levitt section. These were built as moderately priced, self-contained single-family homes, and at 55 to 60 years old they are squarely in the age that drives the heaviest renovation and cleanout demand: interior gut jobs, roof and siding tear-offs, basement and garage clear-outs, and estate cleanouts in homes that may still be on their original owners. That is exactly the 20-yard’s wheelhouse.

Here are the jobs that come up again and again on the O-named streets:

  • Whole-house cleanouts. This is the 20-yard’s best-known role — it is even nicknamed the “whole-house cleanout” size. Clearing an original Overbrook Levitt home between owners, or after years of accumulation in a longtime family house, fills a 20-yard about right without paying for space you will not use.
  • Multi-room remodels. Tearing out an original Levitt kitchen plus a bath or two, or running new flooring and drywall through several rooms of a 1960s split-level, is the classic 20-yard job here. The drywall, plaster, cabinetry, and trim debris from a multi-room gut is exactly the volume a 20 was built for.
  • Estate cleanouts. As one of the last Belair sections to fill in, Overbrook has held many of the same families since the homes were new. When one of those original-owner houses changes hands, the 20-yard handles furniture, boxes, and household debris in a single container.
  • Mid-size roofing tear-offs. A single-layer asphalt tear-off on one of these modest-footprint Capes or ranchers fits comfortably; shingles are dense, so let us know it is a roofing job and we will quote it accordingly.

If your project is smaller — a single bathroom, a garage purge, a few rooms of flooring — a 15-yard may serve you better. If you are gutting the house to the studs and adding on, we will talk through whether a 30 makes more sense. Tell us the address and the scope and we will steer you straight; we would rather size it right than oversell you.

Placement, permits, and the narrow-street reality

Driveway placement is the key decision in the O section. Overbrook’s streets are narrow residential lanes, not wide arterials, so the smart move here is almost always to stage the dumpster on the home’s own driveway rather than on the roadway. A 20-yard needs about 22 feet of straight length plus a few feet of clearance and an open swing for the rear door, and the detached single-family lots in Overbrook generally give you that room on the drive. Keeping the box off these tight streets keeps your neighbors’ parking and through-traffic clear, and it sidesteps the one situation that triggers a city permit. When you call, tell us where you picture it sitting and we will confirm it fits before we roll. Roll-off dumpsters and delivery trucks are heavy and may damage some surfaces, so protecting the driveway or placement area before delivery is the customer’s responsibility. If you’re unsure about placement, call our office before scheduling.

The Bowie permit rule. The City of Bowie requires a right-of-way permit only if the dumpster sits in a city street. Driveways and HOA-approved staging do not. Because the defining placement here is the home’s own driveway, a street permit is the exception in Overbrook, not the rule — most O-section projects stage entirely on private property with no permit at all. If the only practical spot turns out to be the street, that permit goes through Bowie’s Public Works Department; customers are responsible for determining whether a permit is required and obtaining it before delivery.

Confirming the address. One quiet advantage of the O section is how easy it is to pin down where we are headed: because every street here starts with the letter O, addresses are simple to confirm before a drop, and there is little chance of routing the truck to the wrong block. Overbrook sits in the northeast part of Bowie with easy access to U.S. Route 50, Samuel Ogle Park, and the Washington, Baltimore and Annapolis (WB&A) Trail, so we know the lay of the land well. The section is in ZIP 20715.

Drive time. We dispatch every morning by Route 197 or the BW Parkway. Most Overbrook addresses are scheduled inside 24 hours, and an early call may still make a same-day run.

Talk to the family that runs the trucks

Call (301) 252-3586 and you reach the people who actually own and operate JP Roll-Off. Tell us your Overbrook address and what you are tackling — an original Levitt kitchen gut, a whole-house cleanout on one of the O-named streets, an estate clear-out, or a mid-size roof tear-off on one of these 1960s Capes or ranchers — and we will confirm the 20-yard is the right size and quote you on the spot.
